(SNAPPshot is a daily blog-like news piece about the mobile gaming industry. A “snapshot” of the past 24 hours if you will. It’s basically an excuse for Noen to ramble on about anything and everything that has to do with nothing.)

Coffee & Swiping mug by Nik

Goooooood flipping morning/afternoon/evening SNAPP Family!! Time to pour a cup of coffee and see what the hell has been going on the past 24 hours! (As if you didn’t know.)

Well, we’ve made it halfway through the week! Yes, it’s Wednesday. The eve of the App Store refresh. New games have already started popping up fairly early, but of course the BIG news is the Apple Event yesterday. Honestly, I’ll try and keep things very short…..

Apple Event iPhone x

So, yesterday Apple presented the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus with a thud in my opinion. Apple pretty much “played it safe” and just game everything a minor upgrade. They also presented the 3rd generation Apple Watch which had a pretty big leap in technology with it being “swim proof” and having 3G capabilities. Apple’s “one more thing” was the iPhone X. Now, I will say, the thing looks cool as hell! I absolutely love the 1125 x 2436 “Super OLED” edge-to-edge screen. I’ve been waiting for phones like this to exist. Pretty much just holding a screen in your hands. I’m due for an upgrade right now, but I won’t be getting the iPhone X. *gasp* First off, it’s just too expensive for me. Even with the upgrade discount. SNAPPZILLA is my full-time job and I’m literally making pennies a day right now. (Donations keep us alive for now. *wink*) Second, is that I’m worried about gaming on the device. I know it will be up to developers, but I think on-screen controls will be wonky for a while, and by using swipe gestures to close out of apps will also affect gameplay in my opinion. I guess only time will tell, but I’m just going with the iPhone 8 this time around.

iPhone 8/x lineup

Sorry if that sounded rushed because it was. I didn’t want to spend too much time on the event. Just wanted to give my quick 2 cents.

There was actually news OTHER than the Apple Event yesterday! I’ll try and go through it fairly quick so this isn’t too long of a read……

Legend of Bumbo

Developer, Edmund McMillen tweeted out yesterday that he is currently developing a prequel to The Binding of Isaac called, The Legend of Bum-Bo. The good news is that we won’t have to wait long! The Legend of Bum-Bo will be releasing on Steam and iOS this December!

We had a couple game soft launch yesterday….

Sonic Battle

First one is, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle in the PH App Store. It’s pretty much more of the past couple Sonic runners. I haven’t dug into it too much yet, but first impressions aren’t that good for me.

Taichi Panda 3

Next one is, Taichi Panda 3: Dragon Hunter in the AU and NZ App Stores. I haven’t had a chance to download, but it does look pretty good from the screenshots and trailer. Of course, it’s F2P, so you’re going to have a bunch of timed events, multiple currencies, etc.

Thimbleweed Park screenshot

Developers, Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick announced the official release dates for the murder mystery adventure game, Thimbleweed Park! iOS gets it September 19th, Nintendo Switch gets it September 21st, and for Android, October 3rd.

Calculator The Game 500k Google Play

Last, but not least. Congrats to Simple Machine for Calculator: The Game reaching over 500K downloads on Google Play!!

Alright. I’m going to leave it at that. I’ve gotta get back to stalking the App Store. Have a great day everyone and keep on swiping…….
