SNAPPshot: Thursday September 7, 2017
(SNAPPshot is a daily blog-like news piece about the mobile gaming industry. A “snapshot” of the past 24 hours if you will. It’s basically an excuse for Noen to ramble on about anything and everything that has to do with nothing.)
Goooooooood Thursday morning/afternoon/evening SNAPP Family!! Time to pour a cup of coffee and see what the hell has been going on in the past 24 hours…..
Well, the big news is that it’s Thursday. The day the App Store changes over and (usually) the biggest release day of the week. I know things had started off kind of slow for new games by the time yesterday’s SNAPPshot was published. Luckily, things have picked up a little since then. Noodlecake released a new puzzle style game, isTom released a really fun arcade racer. There’s definitely some gems in the bunch. I’ll have the SNAPP Roundup published tomorrow with the whole list of course.
Just a side note: In case you’re wondering why there hasn’t been as much content lately, I’ve mentioned it before, but my two daughters started school this week. So, it’s been a little crazy getting used to the new schedule. I’ll be back on track next week.
Alright. Well, we did have some news yesterday……
First off, we at SNAPPZILLA just want to congratulate indie developer, Colin Lane for all his success in the mobile game industry. Yesterday he had tweeted out that his most recent game, Battle Golf Online has hit over 400k downloads which pushed his account to over the 10 MILLION marker! So he’s had 10M downloads since August of 2014. That’s just ridiculous if you think about it. Great news though and it couldn’t have happened to a better guy. We’re so proud to see any indie developers get success like that.
I thought this was a cool story. So, Rovio has launched a new game-jam called MumJam that’s taking place November 11-12. The game-jam is specifically aimed at women looking to get into the industry. Really cool to see Rovio doing something like this. We definitely need more females in the industry.
I thought this game was about dead, but CEO, Tsunekazu Ishihara of The Pokémon Company says in a recent interview with Bloomberg that PokémonGO has only accomplished 10% of what they want to do with the game. He’s talking PVP battles and card trading coming next. I honestly didn’t care for the game much, so I guess the actual news to me was that so many people were still playing this game! Hey, as long as they are having fun, who cares right?
We had a few big updates yesterday…….
Card Thief had a big content update with 10 new thieves each with their own unique gameplay.
Lost Socks: Naughty Brothers had a big one with a bunch of improvements to the game like fixing the game’s economy, redoing several weapons, adding checkpoints, and a bunch of other fixes. It feels like a different game now.
Neon Drive got a brand new level 8, a Free Run Mode, a new GUI design, and new music.
Silly Walks got a big update with 10 new levels, a Racing Mode, 5 new characters, and a few more surprises.
Last, but not least. Portal Walk got a whole new world with new bosses, enemies, locations, (thankfully) control improvements, and of course, bug fixes.
Alright. That’s your SNAPPshot for yesterday. Have a great day everyone and remember to keep on swiping……..
