(SNAPPshot is a daily blog-like news piece about the mobile gaming industry. A “snapshot” of the past 24 hours if you will. It’s basically an excuse for Noen to ramble on about anything and everything that has to do with nothing.)
Goooooood flipping morning/afternoon/evening SNAPP Family!! It’s time to pour a cup of coffee and see what the hell has been going on the past 24 hours….
Well, it’s Wednesday. The eve of the weekly App Store refresh. So far, it’s been a pretty slow morning for new releases. But, hey, it’s the App Store we’re talking about. One minute it’s slow, the next minute we’re having games dumped on us like crazy. So, nothing really to talk about yet as far as new games go.
There wasn’t a whole lot of big news (again) yesterday. A lot of hype has been going on with mobile streaming lately though. Of course, streaming games is one of the biggest things in the industry right now. We at SNAPPZILLA haven’t jumped on that bandwagon yet. It’s in the works right now, but there’s just so much else going on, that it’s hard to find time, let alone the right time for people to watch. Anyway, Microsoft recently released a streaming app called Mixer Create. Now, the YouTube Gaming app has the ability to stream. With both of these, you need Apple’s ReplayKit to let you stream. So, of course, the game you’re wanting to stream needs to support ReplayKit. It’s not perfect, but it’s a start. The easiest thing (if you can afford it) is to just get yourself and Elgato or some sort of PVR and there’s always Mobcrush.
Rebel Twins announced yesterday that they are in the process of developing a sequel to Dragon Hills. If you haven’t played the original game, I highly recommend it. Actually, I highly recommend all of Rebel Twins’s games. Every game is a gem in their own way. Anyway, there’s no set release date for Dragon Hills 2 except for “autumn”. But, fall is right around the corner, so luckily we won’t have to wait too long.
I know we don’t cover Android games much, but the recently released RPG, Cat Quest is coming to Google Play on September 15. I’ve played quite a bit of this game and it’s a solid title worth picking up if you don’t own an iOS device.
Mobile publisher, Channel 4 is branching out in the industry with a spin-off company called, All 4 Games. This will pretty much be an independent publishing label and give the company the freedom to publish any kind of games that they want instead of only publishing games that kind of fits Channel 4’s “theme”. Hopefully it works out for them.
Last but not least, congrats to Hutch Games for their newest title, Top Drives surpassing 1 million downloads in the first week! I’m not really a CCG fan, but it’s great to hear regardless.
Alright. That’s it for today’s SNAPPshot. Keep it stiff everyone and keep on swiping…..
