SNAPPshot: Friday September 1, 2017
(SNAPPshot is a daily blog-like news piece about the mobile gaming industry. A “snapshot” of the past 24 hours if you will. It’s basically an excuse for Noen to ramble on about anything and everything that has to do with nothing.)
Gooooood morning/afternoon/evening SNAPP Family! Whatever time it is for you, it’s time to pour a cup of coffee and see what the hell has been going on in the industry the past 24 hours…..
Well, the rush is finally over and the App Store has been refreshed. There were a TON of great games that released this week and surprisingly, Apple did a pretty good job on the games they featured. Of course, I expected Angry Birds Match to get a spot (the very first spot to be exact), but the rest of the featured games are actually pretty good picks! So, congrats to all the developers that made it to the front page this week! We will do our best here at SNAPPZILLA to showcase everyone that didn’t make it.
Well, there wasn’t a whole lot of news going on besides the last of the new games releasing. I know pre-registrations for the upcoming, Game of Thrones: Conquest started yesterday. You can pre-register here.
Capcom also announced that they are planning on bringing Puzzle Fighter to iOS. The game will apparently get a whole new look with new features like real-time PvP battles. No word on an official release date yet, but it should be out by the end of the year.
The only other thing I saw worth noting is that via Facebook, one of the developers from Bangalore based Nukebox Studios shared a “success story” on their recent game, Food Truck Chef. Yea, I know. Not really the type of game that we cover here at SNAPPZILLA. But, the game hit 3 million downloads in just 10 DAYS! Better yet, they made $500K in revenue in just 45 days! That’s just crazy for a small 3 year old studio from India. Good for them. I guess it took 18 months to develop the game after killing 15 games prior to it.
So, what’s the lesson to this story? That I have absolutely no clue what the market wants anymore. It just shows that anybody can “make it” in the mobile gaming industry, but it’s more of a crap shoot on IF you will or not.
Anyway, that’s about it for yesterday. I didn’t see anything big as far as updates go. I will say that Muffin Knight (by Angry Mob Games) just received an update making them ready for iOS 11. That was one of the many games I’ve been worried about. This whole 32-bit iOS 11 thing is going to make me stroke out before it even releases! So many games that could be going away. Ugh! Keep on swiping everyone…….
