PowerSlide SNAPP Review
(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really a full fledged game review as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a certain game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know whether it’s worth your time/money or not.)
I’ve gotta say. I absolutely love finding odd little hidden gems on the App Stor. And I REALLY love it when the game mixes two of my favorite pastimes which is power sliding and killing orcs. I’m telling ya. There is nothing better than sliding across the ground with your 6 string in some tight leather pants. Throw in a dirty orc amidst my path and I’m in heaven!
The game I’m talking about is titled simply, PowerSlide (by Jampot Games). And to be honest, that’s all I needed to see before I smashed the BUY button. Yes, it says “BUY”, not “GET”. So you will need to cough up one U.S. Dollar if you want to get your hands on this.
There’s not much story to this game except, “What?! Orcs dare to ruin my concert!? Time to Power Slide!! Let’s Rock!!!” Actually, that’s the App Description, but that’s all you get in this jam!
The object of PowerSlide is to kill as many orcs in one jam session…..or “sess” as us in the biz like to call it. And when I say “biz”, I mean business. Us rockstars don’t like anything more than one syllable. Anyway, you do this by power sliding into every dirty orc in your way. If you happen to miss one or just get caught up by one, it’s game over. So, there’s not much room for error in this game at first.
Controls are the only thing that I haven’t cared for in PowerSlide. You hold your thumb on the screen while your little rocker follows it around. When you lift your thumb is when you power slide. It’s really odd. I would have like maybe a v-stick with an actual separate button to slide. Even just a swipe would have made things so much easier. Don’t get me wrong. The controls don’t really ruin the game. After a handful of runs, you’ll start getting used to the weird controls. Plus, different characters change gameplay up quite a bit making things more manageable.
So, is PowerSlide worth your hard earned buck? Controls aside, I’d say it isn’t that bad of a game. There are 18 different characters all with unique abilities to unlock and upgrade, 10 levels, and 4 scenes. I will say that the game is tough and coins aren’t very plentiful until you get the hang of things. But hey! Nobody said being a rockstar was easy!!
(PowerSlide is currently FREE on the App Store. So go get you some!)
