(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really a full fledged game review as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a certain game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know whether it’s worth your time/money or not.)
Well, it’s Tuesday and the App Store has been a little slow. I did some digging and found a snugget that just released called, Quartz by indie developer, Naf Studio.
Quartz is a really cool sci-fi platformer where you play as an android that’s been sent out to disable a rogue swarm of parasite robots called The Swarm.
Besides the serious sounding story, Quartz is actually pretty unique. Each level is only the size of the screen. So, there’s no camera movement in the game. Your android runs automatically, so the only controls you have are tapping the screen to jump. It seems simple at first, but things get pretty hectic once you get past level 10 or so. There are 80 different levels/screens in total.
I’ve been playing Quartz for a little while now and I’ve gotta say that I’m really enjoying it! It can get frustrating as all hell at times, but i haven’t gotten to a point where I want to throw my device……….yet. It’s all about timing in this game. Honestly, it feels more like a puzzle game at times rather than a platformer. That’s a good thing though.
If you have an extra buck burning a hole in your pocket, definitely give Quartz a shot. I don’t think you’ll regret it.
