(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really a full fledged game review as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a certain game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know whether it’s worth your time/money or not.)
I know that it’s been a pretty slow release week so far on the App Store, so I just wanted to give you a quick heads-up on an odd game that I found yesterday.
The game is called, Good Morning! Zombie (by hee gun jun) and…….well, wait. Let me say first off that even the app description can’t even describe this game. So, I don’t know how the hell I’m supposed to.
Here’s the description:
Do you like zombie?
This is very easy and simple.
This is not a horror game.
This is cute zombie game.
Develop a vaccine to cure zombies!
Enjoy it lightly.
Ok. Well, we’ve got that it’s definitely NOT a horror game and that it’s a cute zombie game. That’s really about it. I’m not sure about the whole “playing lightly” thing. Maybe I’m doing that wrong?
Anyway, after digging into Good Morning! Zombie, I learned that it actually has a really cute story mixed into it. In a nutshell, your wife gets turned into a zombie after the apocalypse hits and instead of killing her, you spend the rest of your life making vaccines to try to cure her. See? Aww!! Come on!! It’s cute!!
This is where all the confusing stuff comes into play……
So, you have several different machines in your bunker that all do their own thing in the game. One machine makes pills for your vaccine, one creates coins, a generator to keep everything running, and of course, the vaccine maker. (Ok, here’s where it’s gonna get wonky.) So, every machine runs on its own, but can be sped up by tapping on it repeatedly. So, we’ve got “clicker” mechanics. Plus, when you leave the game and come back, your machines are still running like in most idle/clicker games. Ok. We’ve got that part out of the way. Now, in order to upgrade the machines, you need to go into town with your trusty wagon and pretty much beat the hell out of everything in sight until it breaks. You then use the scraps for parts to upgrade the machines. Any leftover parts can be sold in town to vendors.
There is also your zombie wife that you need to keep healthy. You’ll need to buy food and water and feed her to keep her alive. Plus, you need to give her different vaccines to find the right one that cures her. Each vaccine turns her into a different type of zombie. So, you will need to find the right combinations to create new zombies in order to cure her. So, there’s actually “monster collecting” in the game also. Confused yet?
There is just so much in this game, that it would be a short story if I mentioned everything. I’m STILL finding new parts of town, new stores, new things to do in the game. Like this morning, I created a flipping savings account in one of the banks I found and am earning interest!
Good Morning! Zombie may be confusing, but there is a ton of content in this little pixel art package. I’ll give you fair warning now though. This game may not be for some. It doesn’t hold your hand with anything and can really confuse you at first. But if you stick with it, GM!Z can be really interesting. Plus, I always appreciate it when developers try something really different.
