Freak Truck SNAPP Review
(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really a full fledged game review as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a certain game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know whether it’s worth your time/money or not.)
Now, I know the whole endless runner phase has been beat to death. Especially the behind-the-back style cut & paste runners. But, there’s still a few of us left out there that dig the genre. Plus, it’s been quite awhile since there’s been a decent one release.
The game I’m talking about is, Freak Truck (by Ambidexter Studio). Freak Truck just released on the App Store and it was yet another one of those games where I thought about passing up. It’s by an unknown developer/publisher, it has the words, “Crazy Car Racing” after the title, and of course, it’s a game that’s in an oversaturated genre. BUT, I decided to try it……
Freak Truck is actually pretty decent. It’s not really bringing anything new to the table, but to be honest, everything has pretty much been done before. The game offers a 60 level campaign across 6 different areas, plus there is an “endless mode”. What’s a little unique about Freak Truck is that the object is to actually hit oncoming cars and pedestrians instead of avoid them. I’ve gotta tell ya, hearing people screaming mixed with huge explosions and blood splatter makes the game worth a try alone. There’s also a handful of cars to unlock along with a TON of add-ons that unlock different abilities.
Like I said, there’s not a whole lot added to the genre, so if you hate this style of endless runners, this one isn’t going to make you a fan again. But, if you still like an occasional 3-lane swipefest, Freak Truck might be worth checking out.
