Coffee Batman image

Goooood Morning Gamers!! Welcome to the start of your week! I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, but thanks for waking up with me anyway.

Things are a little different this week for me. I’ll be drinking coffee with you from Florida. Yes, I’m still on vacation with the family. It’s been a rough go so far. The weather has been nice, but everyone has still been sick. So, it’s been a lot of coughing and leaking fluids all over the place. Luckily, I’ve been feeling much better, so I should be back in “somewhat” full gear this week. Technically, I’m still on vacation, but I’ll be working.

So, fire up those coffee makers or pick up a frappa mocha slappa whatever at the closest coffee house and let’s get started. Make sure to bring a towel with you, because things may get a little moist.

First off, I just want to thank everyone for being with us our first year. Our 1 Year “SNAPPiversary” just passed on April 14th. I did a little write-up for it over the weekend called, SNAPPZILLA: Year One (clever title huh?). It was crazy going back and looking at some of our early reviews and write-ups. I forgot that originally the “SNAPP Review” was only supposed to be around a paragraph. Just a quick few sentences to tell the reader whether the game is good or not. If you look at some of the first SNAPP Reviews, they are all around 3 to 4 sentences. That only seemed to last for a little while for some reason. I don’t know. Maybe I like to talk too much. I try to keep SNAPP Reviews as short as possible and leave the blabbing to regular “Game Reviews”. It was definitely fun going through old stuff though. One thing that hasn’t changed is my love for a good dick joke and the fact that I’m still a pretty horrible writer. But, hey! With a body like this, I know you’re not here for my writing!

Anyway, it was a hell of a week last week for new games. My hats off to all the game devs that released something last week on the App Store. There were so many great games last week. I’m still going through them all. The 1999 PC hit, Planetscape: Torment was released. The game I did a “On The Radar” preview on, Full of Stars finally released. Hell, even Donut Games released a new one this week. I’m still working my way through a lot, but here’s some of the games that I’ve been playing so far.

Zombie Safari (by Dogbyte Games) is kind of a spinoff of their last game, Dead Venture. If you liked that game, you will most likely dig this one. It has more of a F2P vibe to it, but not in a greedy way. Basically, you’re driving around completing missions which usually involve killing zombies in some way. It’s just good fun.

Pixel Fleet 2 (by Yongrui REN) isn’t half bad. I originally thought it was going to be another old school pixel art shooter. It’s more of a Space Invaders style of game where your “ship” is stationary at the bottom of the screen and the “enemy” is slowly traveling downward. There is a pinch of Bullet Hell added to the mix to keep things interesting.

I know that I’ve mentioned Full of Stars (ArsThanea) a couple times before. It’s definitely a good game though. I’ve been playing through it again this week. This one is great if you like “choose your own adventure” style of games.

I’ve got to be honest. I wasn’t that impressed with Charming Runes (Mighty Games). It’s heavily “inspired” by 111%’s game, BBTAN. I know Ketchapp did a blatant ripoff of BBTAN. This game has the same style of gameplay, but with a new skin over it. The visuals are beautiful, but I just can’t seem to get past that I’ve played the game before. Plus, this game is geared toward the player buying IAPs. It’s not a bad game, but if you do like the gameplay, please give BBTAN a try.

Bacon Escape (Illusion Labs) is a fun little game. I played a decent little chunk of that over the weekend. The visuals are beautiful and there’s tons to collect. It’s more of a memory type of game than anything. Definitely a fun little time killer though.

Alright, onto the news of last week……

happy racing

The team behind the game, Bowmasters is releasing a new game called, Happy Racing. I had the chance to to play this one over the weekend and it’s hilarious. It’s a side scrolling racing game set in the Bowmasters universe. So, of course there is tons of blood and guts. The game is set to release really soon, so definitely keep an eye out for this one.

Drop Wizard Tower

Nitrome teased a new game last week. This one is by the team behind Drop Wizard, Neutronized. The game is called Drop Wizard Tower and I know absolutely nothing about it. I dug Drop Wizard, so I’m excited for this one. I’m excited for any Nitrome jam.

I almost don’t even want to talk about this one, but here we go with the Fez rumors again. So, last week a trailer popped up on Vimeo by Polytron showing Fez coming to iOS. This has been a whole helping of drama for years. Phil Fish has been magnet to drama since 2013 I think. So, do. I think Fez is really “coming soon” to iOS? I’m not holding my breath.

Lara Croft GO C&S

Lara Croft GO got a big update last week! This one is called the “Mirror of Spirits” DLC. I haven’t had a chance to play it yet, (it’s on my to-do list this week), but I’m looking forward to it. I’m not a huge puzzle fan, but I absolutely loved Lara Croft GO. I’m sure part of it is because I’m a big (obsessed) Tomb Raider fan, but it’s honestly a fun game.

Spongebob Game Station

A weird one soft launched last week on the PH App Store. Spongebob Game Station. Now, I’m also a big Spongebob fan, (I blame my kids!) so I was originally excited for this. After playing it for awhile, I’m not too impressed. It’s another behind the back 3 lane runner which we already have on the App Store right now. (Granted, it was based off of the movie.) Now, I know that it’s still in soft launch, so I’m not going to talk too bad about it and there is a lot of different game modes promised besides just endless running, but please, PLEASE, do. proper voiceovers! It’s ruining the game right now.

Alright. That’s about it for me this week. Like I said, I’m feeling better now, so things should start picking back up. I’ve got a bunch of games on my to-do list for the week, so keep an eye on some new reviews coming down the pipeline. My only concern right now will be this week’s SNAPP Roundup. I’m flying home on Friday, so either the Roundup will be early again or a day late. I guess it depends on how the week goes. I appreciate everyone sticking with us through me being sick and then now on vacation. I wasn’t planning on everything happening at once. I love your gamer faces.

Until next week, keep on swiping……..
