Coffee & Swiping: W/E June 18, 2017
(Coffee & Swiping is a weekly news-y/blogg-y article about the past week’s news/drama in the mobile gaming industry. It’s basically an excuse for Noen to ramble on about anything and everything that has to do with nothing.)
Gooooooood Morning SNAPP Family and welcome to another Monday morning, but with a sexy and sweaty Noen this time. Yes, I’m actually on another “vacation” this week. This should be the last one of the summer. But, I’m in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina this time and it is fucking HOT! My perfectly proportioned yet very manly nipples are on fire! So, it’s more like ice cold “Mt. Dew & Swiping” this week.
Unfortunately, this week will probably a shorter C&S than most weeks. It’s just been hella busy with packing, the horrible 2-day drive down here, and then Father’s Day yesterday. (By the way, Happy belated Father’s Day to all the gamer dads out there!) Of course, I did play some games every second I had a chance. That’s the thing I’m not sure everybody knows about me. Video games are honestly my life outside of family. Of course, I’m a great dad and husband (I hope at least) first, but every other second of my day has to do with video games. Whether it’s playing them, reading about them, writing about them, collecting them, or just dreaming about them. I’ve been this way all my life. I mean, yes, I guess it’s considered a “hobby”, but I feel the word “hobby” just doesn’t do it justice. It’s more of a “passion” for me. Maybe of these days I’ll actually write a little “About The Author” article to explain my madness.
Anyway, enough of that. Let’s get into some mobile games.
First off, I just wanted to say that we had a new SNAPP logo high atop if the website. This one is by indie developer, Rodrigo Santelices to celebrate his new iOS game, Resumé Run. This game was actually last week’s SNAPP Challenge also. It’s another overlooked indie game that definitely needs more attention.
I know I’m getting myself off track here, but games like Resumé Run are exactly why I love SNAPPZILLA so much. There are so many games released on the App Store on a daily basis and there are only a handful of the bigger review sites out there. So, a LOT of great indie games end up slipping through the cracks. We at SNAPPZILLA are those cracks. We love being able to get attention to games that may have never seen the light of day. That’s why I hope that SNAPPZILLA can become successful one day. The more attention we get, the more attention the games get. Which also means the more games you guys get. It’s a win/win for everyone. But of course, we can’t do it without your help. We need help with the costs or running the site. Things are getting expensive and we’re paying everything out of pocket still. We also need you guys to tell everyone about us, retweet or repost our articles, hell, put your own tweets or posts out telling your followers to check us out! Alright, I’ll get back on track now.
Let’s talk about that App Store shall we?
So, we ended up with another great week for new releases last week. It started off a little slow in the beginning of the week, but picked up really fast around Wednesday morning and was pretty much non-stop until the App Store refreshed. Of course, there were big named games like Angry Birds Evolution, Cars: Lightning League, and Asphalt Street Storm Racing that took most of the spotlight, but there were a ton of great indie titles that popped up. Also, Beat Stomper by Rocky Hong was this week’s Free App of the Week.
I wasn’t able to play as much over the weekend with everything going on. Today will be the day that I really start digging into some games. But, I was able to play a few.
One game that I’m really digging so far is Fowlst. This game is so damn fun that it was also this week’s SNAPP Challenge. It would have been cool to see a few extras in the visual department like unlocking different color schemes or even characters, but it’s still a great little game.
Framed 2 of course is good. Not much to say about this one except that if you liked the first game, you’ll like this one. It can definitely get tricky in the later levels though.
I’ve been playing this other game called Ninja Arashi. It’s a side scroller with the whole silhouette shadow effects. I’m still on the fence about it. I keep playing level after level trying to figure out if I like it or not. The most that I can say so far is that it’s “decent”. It’s free to play, so it’s worth a try.
Oh, I did play a little chunk of Cars: Lightning League at the hotel on the way down here. It’s another lane based runner with levels and objectives. It’s not horrible, but it does get fairly repetitive after the first 10 levels or so. It looks pretty though!!
Alright guys and gals. That’s about it for me. Like I said, my past few days have been pretty boring when it comes to gaming. Now that I’m settled in down here, I’ll be able to get some work done. Have a great week everyone and keep on swiping…….
