(Coffee & Swiping is a weekly news-y/blogg-y article about the past week’s news/drama in the mobile gaming industry. It’s basically an excuse for Noen to ramble on about anything and everything that has to do with nothing.)
Sorry for the delay. It’s been a crazy weekend. My brother’s girlfriend was in a bad car accident on the freeway while on her way over to his house and ended up passing away. So, needless to say, it’s been one hell of a couple of days. But, the show must go on I guess. I’m just sorry ahead of time if this week’s C&S doesn’t seem up to par.
Gooooood Morning SNAPP Family and welcome to the start of your work week. It’s the last day of July, so you know what that means!……actually I have no clue what the hell that means. It’s hot? Whatever. I just seem to talk out of my ass once in awhile.
Anyway, fire up those coffee makers and grab the lube. I’m going in the brown door and coming out painting it white!
So, we had another busy week on the App Store. It’s honestly like this every week anymore. We’re averaging like 100+ noteworthy games on the SNAPP Roundup every week now. Prior to that, it was around 50-60 games. So, games have almost doubled over the past few months. Now, I’m not saying that every game is good, but it’s definitely a lot more to go through.
So, what games have been taking up my time lately? How kind of you to ask!
One game that surprised the hell out of me is Fishalot. I can’t seem to stop playing this game……well, when the timers allow me to play. That’s my only issue with the game is that I can’t play it enough. That’s F2P for you though. Playfiber did an excellent job with making a casual fishing game. Even if you’re not a fan of fishing games, it’s still really fun.
Next up is, Wheelie Racing by Red Bull. I’ve played quite a few of these type of games and this one is one of my favorites so far. Luckily there isn’t a bunch of Red Bull advertisements in the game. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve seen any! That’s usually the problem with anything published by Red Bull. It’s crammed with advertisements to where the game usually feels like one big playable commercial. Wheelie Racing feels and plays like something that was given a lot of attention and love. Definitely worth a download.
Alright, moving on to the next game is Adventure Time Run. Now, everyone knows that I’m kind of an endless runner connoisseur. So, on one hand I was turgid because of a new runner, but on the other hand, I was left flaccid due to it being like the 3rd or 4th Adventure Time themed runner. All in all, I’d say that I had a semi after playing it. It’s fun and has a few little things to offer, but it gets old fairly quick. It’s still worth downloading. Especially if you’re a fan of Jake & Finn.
Of course I tried out The Revenge of Shinobi by SEGA. With these Sega Forever games, I just need to copy/paste the same thing on all of them. Yes, they play fine on mobile, but they don’t play well. It just feels like it was half-assed. The only thing I can really say is, “It’s (insert SEGA game here) on mobile”. No extras, to options, just the game with on screen controls.
Gummy Heroes by Invictus is a really fun game. For those of you that have been playing mobile games for a while, it reminds me of the game, Grim Joggers. It’s a platformer where you need to break free as many Gummies as you can throughout the level and try not to kill them before the finish line. A cool little addition is that you can buy accessories and dress up your gummies. It’s strictly cosmetic, but fun to see your little guys and gals actually playing on the screen. I would have liked to see some kind of power-ups or something extra, but for what it is, it’s worth checking out.
I guess I’ll leave it at that. I apologize for this week seeming half-assed. It honestly isn’t. My head just had a million things going on. I’m back to normal now I think. I will say that the funeral is on Friday, so the SNAPP Roundup will be affected somehow. Whether I publish it on Thursday, Saturday, or late Friday. I guess it all depends on how busy the week is with new games.
Other than that, things have already started picking up this week. We had Bacon May Die just release and I’ve got a ton of soft launched games I’m going through right now. Plus, keep your eyeballs peeled for a new Indieview popping up later on today! Until then, keep it stiff and most of all, keep on swiping…….
