(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really a full-fledged iOS game review as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a mobile game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know whether it’s worth your time/money or not.)
Drobot is a backwards-firing 360 degree single stick stick shooter. In other words, a “butt shooter”. The universe is in a state of emergency due to an outbreak of mysterious creatures in outer space. Your job is to stop them and restore peace to space. You control a “Drobot” which is a robotic defense mechanism. Controls are pretty simple with just a v-stick for moving/shooting and a single button to dash. Every 10 seconds, a new wave of enemies come after you as you try and survive. The backwards-firing takes a second to get used to, but after a couple waves, it becomes second nature. After each wave, you can choose between 6 different upgrades to help you out on the next onslaught. Unfortunately, you lose all your upgrades after you die. Drobot is an excellent shooter with some nice chunky pixel art. I would have liked to have seen a little less roguelike action with some permanent upgrades or different Drobots to use. Luckily, you can unlock different color palettes as you progress through the game. If you’re a fan of shooters, definitely give Drobot a try!
Drobot is also in this week’s SNAPP Roundup!
