(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really a full-fledged iOS game review as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a mobile game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know whether it’s worth your time/money or not.)
Rapid Magic Arcane Crystals is a unique mixture of a casual reaction-based game and a story-based RPG. You play as 4 different characters, each with their own different storyline and abilities. The main piece of this game is the spell casting mechanic. Those of you who have played Magic Touch: Wizard for Hire by Nitrome will feel right at home. To cast spells, you need to match the images on the screen by swiping your finger. It’s fairly simple and works. The issue is that the game is very unforgiving at times. You get one hit and it’s game over. The bad part is there are no checkpoints, so you need to start the entire level over. The levels aren’t that long, but long enough to make things frustrating. Later on in the game, you will gain new abilities to ease the pain, but it’s definitely a phone-thrower in the beginning. Mindsense did an excellent job with this game. It’s really polished and has some great ideas. It honestly would be a “must have” if it had a checkpoint system. Even without it, it’s still a great game for gamers who like a challenge.
