(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really a full fledged game review as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a certain game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know whether it’s worth your time/money or not.)

It’s been a REALLY slow Wednesday on the App Store! I’ve been searching and playing anything that I can find in the hopes of finding a couple snuggets. Luckily I did run across a little game that released not too long ago called, Volcano Tower (by Ugly Cake Games).

Volcano Tower is an endless platformer where you play as a tribesmen trying to reach the top of a volcano. With the game being endless, I highly doubt that’s going to happen though.

The gameplay is a fairly simple concept that’s been done before in games. You’re basically running (or jumping) left and right in a narrow area while dodging blocks that are constantly dropping from the ceiling. The blocks will eventually stack up and you will need to climb before you end up being trapped. Like I said, it’s been done before, but it’s done very well in this game.

You can collect coins during each run or ear coins from completing missions. These can be used to upgrade your character’s abilities and spells. These range from jumping higher, running faster, using power-ups like slo-mo and magnet. You can even spend your hard earned coins on new costumes if you’re sick of looking at the one you’re using.

So far, Volcano Tower has been pretty fun. Yea, it’s a bit grindy and repetitive, but that’s what these games are made for. They are great time killers. Plus, the controls are smooth and there’s a ton of polish. I think Ugly Cake Games did a good job on this one. On such a slow day, Volcano Tower is definitely worth picking up.

As always, you can check out Volcano Tower and the rest of today’s new games in the SNAPP Roundup.
