(SNAPP Reviews aren’t really a full fledged game review as much as they are just a way for us to give you a quick “heads-up” on whether a certain game is good or not. It usually means that we haven’t finished the game yet, but have played a good enough chunk to know whether it’s worth your time/money or not.)

I’ve been busy with working on the SNAPP Roundup all day, but I wanted to get the word out really quick on a game that just released……

The game I’m talking about is called, Pocket Rogues: Ultimate (by ALEXEJ LEONYDOV).

Pocket Rogues is a “dynamic 2D Action-RPG with roguelike elements”. It basically an overhead view dungeon crawler. Everything is procedurally generated, so no two runs are the same. The dungeons, the loot, the enemies, everything.

I’ve only got a chance to sink about an hour into the game, but so far, I’ve been enjoying it. It has almost an old-school Gauntlet feel to it for some reason. There’s tons of loot, weapons, skills, upgrades, and even has a pretty unique “Guild Fortress” tree where you can open up new characters.

Now, that doesn’t mean that the game is perfect. The controls are clunky, the tutorial isn’t the greatest, and the visuals aren’t pretty. I even witnessed a few glitches here and there and I actually had a couple crashes on my iPhone 6S Plus. (To be honest, I think it was my device’s fault, but I did want to mention it.) And by biggest concern (this may be bigger for some) is the dual currency. There are coins and gems. That’s usually a sign of a game possibly going F2P. I haven’t had any issues with building up coins, but gems are pretty scarce. Just saying.

Even with all these issues, I’ve still been having a lot of fun with the short time I’ve had so far. So, if you’re a fan of old fashioned RPGs and/or roguelikes, Pocket Rogues: Ultimate is worth checking out.
