I’ve been a fan of long time mobile developer, Magic Cube for quite some time. They are one of those developers that make games that don’t stray too far from each other. You know, most of them have the same art style and theme. So, I was surprised when I saw their new game pop up on the App Store.
Infinity Duels is a really unique mash-up of RPG, roguelike, and I guess you can call it “Timberman” style gameplay. The story is actually fairly well done with three chapters total, plus an Endless Mode. So there is a decent amount of replay-ability.
You start off as a lone warrior up against your first enemy. The way to attack is to tap on the left or right side of the bottom screen to correspond with the action cards that are dealt. Kind of like playing a game of Timberman where you have to tap left or right in order to stay away from the branches. This is the same idea. You tap left or right to attack your enemy, heal yourself, use a special move, ect. You’re at the mercy of the game on which cards are dealt. There are several enemies in each chapter and by killing each one it gives you coins and XP to help you level up your silent warrior. Once you die (and you WILL die), you are sent back to the beginning of the game. Here you will use your coins that you collected to level up your attack, HP, and EXP for your next run.
Infinity Duels is like if Infinity Blade and Timberman had a secret love affair that started off at work as a friendship and ended up having a baby out of wedlock. The gameplay mechanics are really unique and the artwork is absolutely amazing. I’m still working my way through the game, but so far it has been well worth the dollar.
